Musicianship tests are a valuable way to work individually with each member of your band. That is the only way you will really know how they play and what specific problems they might have. These tests may be adapted to certain situations, but the current content should give you an idea about how progress is shown from one grade to the next. The 4th class test is for 9th graders, 3rd for 10 graders, 2nd for 11th graders and 1st class for Seniors. It is possible to move through the tests ahead of schedule. The Master Musicianship test is intended for the Senior band student who wishes to continue skill development after the 1st class test is completed. The regulation that affects the grade requires that each student must complete the appropriate test by the end of the first semester of their current level in school. Failure to do so will result in the overall grade being lowered one letter.
